Marketplace Monday – Fight Mediocrity
Greetings!
It is my great pleasure to present to you Gareth Hobbs, of Fight-Mediocrity.com, as our Encouraging Artist for this week!
It’s very kyool that he was able to give us some time among all the prep for his first launch, so without further delay, here he is!
What do you do?
I help people fight the Dragon of Mediocrity on their own terms.
How did you become an Encourager? What twists & turns of your Path led you to where you are now?
I’d been flirting with the prospect for a while but had never done anything about it. Mainly from a lack of confidence. Then after a particularly bad day of dealing with idiots I wrote A call to arms. That really crystallized my vision of what I wanted. It’s changed slightly now and is going to be rewritten into the “Code of the Dragon Slayer” but the sentiments contained there are going to be preserved.
How do you use your artistry to be an Encourager?
I enjoy finding elegant solutions to complex problems. I think this is why I like using stories to illustrate concepts. There’s something beautiful about a well crafted story.
What’s your overall life philosophy?
Stop waiting. Find a way to do what makes you happy now.
How do you make Encouragement relevant for other people? Or do you not worry about it – trusting that your Right People are out there & will find you?
I used to worry about this. As I get further along this path I’ve chosen I’m slowly realising that I can’t worry about whether people find what I say relevant. Instead, I have to make sure that I feel that what I’m saying is important, and if it resonates with one person, that’s enough.
How would you recommend that people bring Encouragement/positiveness into their lives?
You have to find the one thing that can turn your day around. That thing that makes you happy no matter what. As soon as you find that, fight to hold onto it.
Talk a little bit about your products. Tell us why we should care. ;-D
After a couple of consulting sessions I realised people were struggling to make sense of all the conflicting information around Social Media. I’ve never had any stress around that and only include suggestions that make sense with respect to my overall Social Media strategy. I realised that if I could show others how to do this, I could help them eliminate a lot of stress. That is what Sailing The Social Media Sea is all about.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Don’t compromise on excellence. Either something is worth doing to the best of your ability, or it’s not worth doing at all.
I highly recommend flying over there and snagging your copy of Sailing the Social Media Seas soonest! I was privileged to be a beta on this project, and I can tell you that I learned so much even from that level, and I can’t wait to dive into my full copy! (Yes, I paid for one. Does that tell you something?
)
Your Question for the Day, should you choose to answer it (and I hope you will!
) is…
Are you ready to Fight the Dragon?
Bright Blessings & Good Fortune!

This is an interesting post, especially when contrasted against “What Am I Getting Myself Into?” There’s a lot of food for thought in these two posts.

What have I gotten myself into is a question I ask all the time. Normally when my alarm goes off and I have to go back to the day job without a decent amount of sleep.
P.S. I looooove the rose photo on your header.

Oh, I hate that when it happens! Not a good recipe, for health, happiness, or harmony in my book.

Alarms tend to give me that reaction, too! Along with a little of ‘oh no, not that again!’! Thank you muchly for the compliment!!!
